The Bloody Marches - Session Two

Five adventurers stood on the fourth floor of the SINKING TOWER, busy fumigating a wizard's basement in preparation for some magical construction.

  • Dewyd the Pious, Friar 1 of Beer & Bread.
  • Godwin the Green, Fighter 3.
  • Heiwae Mann, Thief 3.
  • Robin, Cleric 1 of Phantom Limb.
  • Burned Leaves, Elf 1 (retainer of Godwin).
Gavel had volunteered to guard the Brood Snatcher, not trusting the drug-addled blaster caster. He'd lent Godwin his enchanted sickle-sword for killing magical critters.

Dragonbane

Heiwae Mann ran from the cabinet of curios into the smoking lounge, collapsing in a panic attack. Godwin and Leaves stacked up on the door, hearing smashing glass and rattling wood. The pair entered the room with a heavy blanket, intending to trap the evil skull and stomp it to death. A slimy trail led away from the broken jar into the mess of teetering shelves.

As the elf and knight searched the room, Robin blew their sacred hunting horn in Heiwae Mann's face, deafening him but clearing the status condition. Soon after Godwin and Leaves ran screaming from the cabinet, pursued by an angry Worm That Walks. The undead was regenerating biomass, already the size of a dwarf and growing rapidly. Friar Dewyd was also struck with magical fear, leaving most the party fleeing in a desperate route. Only Robin and Heiwae held their nerve.

Abusing his dragonskin armour, the thief set himself ablaze and slamtackled the pile of bugs, yelling for Robin to pile on more firebombs. Despite the beast's best attempts to spray parasitic worms on the party, it went down under a hail of oil flasks. Heiwae elbow dropped the magical skull with his enchanted armour, shattering it into shards of charred bone.

Dewyd shouted a warning - the commotion had roused another monster. A Crocodile Mummy hanging from the ceiling began swinging back and forth, snapping the rope holding it aloft. Cleared of magical fear, the party laid on the hurt. Their slingstones, bullets and arrows did little, but magic swordstrikes, holy water and firebombs all found their mark. Unable to kill the reptile before it freed itself, the thing nearly bisected Robin but the cleric fed it their shield instead. The adventurers laid the lizard low before it dealt anymore damage.

With combat over, they stripped the beast's gem-studded hide and pulled out its gold teeth. Robin found an ivory statue of Roadwarden, levitation spells keeping the armless figure aloft. Godwin opened a broom closet, releasing a fright of janitorial poltergeists that began cleaning up the party's mess. Inside was Hypoxia, a cursed Broom of Flying no one was brave enough to take on a test flight. Dragging their loot upstairs, Robin reconsecrated the schismatic statue to Phantom Limb and received clerical magic from their grateful deity.

The following day the party descended to level three. The stairwell technically went further down, but they'd spotted a Black Pudding in cryptobiosis above the second floor's entrance. Its path of gooey destruction led into a trashed decontamination room filled with ruined WIZMAT suits and Potions of Acid Resistance. Heiwae climbed into a ventilation shaft to scout the adjoining room, muffling a curse when the vent suddenly terminated above a tank of Yellow Mould.

The room was a wizard lab, furnished with chromed steel vats, Windows of Force, lycanthrope-skin PPE and a Homunculus giggling as it dunked a gibbet into Pink Slime. The platypus man shrieked in rage when Heiwae Mann shot him in the beak, scooping up a bucket of Green Slime and unfurling a pair of membranous wings. The rest of the gang piled into the room and blasted the homunculus with Sleep before it could dump flesh-eating ooze on anyone.

As the party went around burning the vats of protoplasmic monsters, Robin noticed something weird about the Green Slime - it looked identical to the DECON room's potions. The bastard platypus had dumped out the tinctures and rebottled them with slime. Meanwhile, Heiwae Mann narrowly avoided a bucket of carnivorous ooze the homunculus had balanced on top of a door. With no remaining traps, the gang ransacked the laboratory for potions and jars of monster organs. They also found a pair of skinkmen in the Pink Slime tank, looting some stolen trinkets from their skeletonised remains.

Loot secured, the adventurers roused the unconscious mutant. He introduced himself as Perry and asked if his father had sent them to kill him. They said he hadn't. Perry explained he was Ingmaind's lab assistant, made from wizard jizz and a stolen Giant Platypus egg. The wizard had severed their psychic connection when the tower began sinking, abandoning his child to avoid a migraine if they drowned. The adventurers asked why he'd been torturing people. Perry argued it was self-defence, the skinks had tried to rob him after sneaking in through a faulty Window of Force.

Mollified, they hired the psychotic monotreme to serve as their person alchemist, dispatching the Brood Snatcher's lizardmen to haul his potion brewing equipment aboard. The party knew they'd be flaunting the Mafia's potion monopoly, but didn't give a shit. They hadn't become adventurers just to do what other people demanded they do. If those treehugging hypocrites wanted to stop their homebrewing operation, they could come and take it.
