KILLING TIME - Unknown Armies Hexcrawl

CARAVAN PALACE are a cabal of camel-riding shepherds in the Australian outback, descended from the Afghan cameleers that spearheaded the exploration of the sunburnt continent. These wizards and their families run the Caravanserai, a combination sheep station, tourist trap, and ethnic enclave in the back country of South Australia, 600km north of Adelaide.

When a monster starts killing their livestock and the cops don’t lift a finger to help, the sorcerous vaqueros saddle their dromedaries, count their charges, and get ready for a bug hunt.

My first Unknown Armies scenario, playtested a few months back on N@TO.

I built this as an excuse to show off some of my UA adept schools. My background in Delta Green definitely shines through, with the scenario beginning with weird unnatural corpses and ending with a climactic fight against a scary monster hiding in a dark hole. C'est la vie.

Here's the scenario folder, with the hexmap, pregens, and main document.

H.M.

The playtest went smoothly, even with Bunyan being absent.

The cabalists figured out where the monster was hiding early, but decided to explore for powerups before fighting it. Moora coerced the general store into giving them high explosives. Then they got some buffing spells from the Heliomancer, nearly got into a shootout with the Cadavaturge and her goons, and Dewie stole the Bushranger's magick items by threatening the Demon with his enchanted gun.

The finale consisted of them pressganging the Phosophomancer and smoking the monster out by dropping explosives into its lair. Then they laid into it with sword, shot, and spell. The steel apron protected Sam from being mauled to death as he chopped its head off, but the identity drain did make him noticeably worse at HOI4 by the end of the fight.

Though tempted by the promise of immortality, the Cabal didn't want to get monkey's pawed and pitched the dead cat down a mineshaft, sealing it with the last of their explosives. We finished the game with the players agreeing they wanted to take revenge on Red Rock for starting this whole mess.

Many thanks to Basil, PRIMEUMATON, and Magnificentophat for playtesting.
